Drexel University Online will celebrate National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) with its seventh annual awards ceremony, honoring exceptional leaders, faculty and staff for their accomplishments and dedication to online learning, on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.

“National Distance Learning Week is an opportunity for universities all over the world to honor individuals who have worked tirelessly to educate students through online education,” said Dr. Susan Aldridge, president of Drexel University Online. “As the new senior vice president of online learning at Drexel University, I am proud to be a part of an award-winning, nationally recognized institution that is a leader in quality online education.”

More than 6.7 million students took at least one online class in fall 2011, according to the Babson Survey Research Group and the College Board’s annual survey released in January. Currently, more than 7,500 unique students from all 50 states and more than 17 countries are pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or certificate through Drexel University Online.

“As nurses face unrelenting, turbulent changes in health care, Drexel University Online is providing them with the educational solutions to meet those challenges by providing a top-notch academic curriculum online,” said Philip Landis, MSN, RN, clinical nurse education specialist at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Drexel University Online student. “I’m excited to attend this year’s Drexel NDLW ceremony and celebrate those individuals who have made online learning a fantastic experience.”

Distance learning has exponentially grown throughout the years and Drexel University Online has been a premier leader of online education since 1996. In an effort to create greater awareness of distance learning and to recognize exceptional leaders and best practices in the field, Drexel University Online founded NDLW, in conjunction with the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA).

“We encourage all schools, colleges and organizations to celebrate National Distance Learning Week, an annual tradition made possible by the USDLA and Drexel University Online,” said Jenny Jopling, president of the USDLA. “It’s the perfect time to take part in live sessions and events with experts who shape educational gaming, the virtual classroom, telehealth and more. It’s a global event you simply cannot miss!”

Created in 2007, NDLW seeks to celebrate the tremendous growth and accomplishments occurring today in distance learning education, while showing appreciation to those who make an indelible mark in the field and with students.
