Drexel University Online would like to join Drexel University in congratulating Dr. Martin Sharp on receiving this year’s Samuel Mercer, Jr. Teaching Award. Dr. Sharp is an instructor in the College of Education, specializing in teaching, M.S. and D.Ed candidates.  He joined Drexel in 2011 with an exemplary record in the field of education and has been continually committed to greatness in his work throughout the fifty year span of his career. The Samuel Mercer, Jr. Award is given to those who have exhibited distinguished instruction and excellence in teaching, both of which are foundations in Sharp’s classroom.

Dr. Sharp came to Drexel in 2011 and brought 50 years of K12 and higher education experience, which he successfully adapted to the online and blended learning environments. "He's known as the Dean of the Discussion Board," said fellow Drexel professor Dr. Allen Grant. "Dr. Sharp is a student’s professor, continually sharing his wisdom, while artfully driving students to improve their higher order thought processes and online engagement skills." Dr. Sharp said he was honored by the award and was thankful Drexel provided lifelong learning opportunities to its students. “We have been told that a child born in 2013 will likely live to the year 2113,” Dr. Sharp said. “How that person lives, learns, loves, laughs, and leads can be influenced by having a spirit for lifelong learning.

Please join us as we formally recognize Dr. Sharp for his teaching accomplishments at the Provost’s Faculty Recognition Dinner this evening, May 22, in Behrakis Grand Hall (32nd & Chestnut Streets) at 5:30 PM.
