What is a Master’s in Entrepreneurship and Innovation?

A master’s in entrepreneurship and innovation is designed for those who want to develop ideas for new businesses or learn how to innovate within existing companies. Entrepreneurs embody a sense of autonomy, purpose, and flexibility that businesses need. They are trailblazers who believe in themselves and their mission without the support of a large company or organization. Entrepreneurs can also enhance an existing idea or practice, which is why innovation is so closely linked to entrepreneurship.

    Why is Entrepreneurship Important?

Entrepreneurs create new business opportunities that provide the community with options outside of traditional corporations. Intrapreneurs, or entrepreneurs within an organization, can identify ways to introduce a product to new markets or turn innovative ideas into real-life changes. Entrepreneurs drive innovation. Without entrepreneurs we wouldn’t have the convenience of rideshare apps, online shopping, or half the small businesses that make up our economy today. Privately or publicly, entrepreneurs seek to improve existing products and services, or create new ones, for the benefit of the greater good.

Should I Get my Master’s in Entrepreneurship or Business?

If you’re trying to decide between an MBA and Master’s in Entrepreneurship, it’s important to ask yourself a few questions:

    • Do I prefer to solve problems creatively or strategically?
    • Am I interested in starting new businesses or impacting change at an existing business?
    • Am I comfortable taking risks?

While entrepreneurship and business programs have some similar characteristics, there are significant differences in the approach to thinking about business. An MS in Entrepreneurship will teach you how to become a leader and develop an understanding of the roadblocks new businesses can face. As an entrepreneur, you must be willing to take smart, calculated risks while acquiring the basic knowledge of starting and running your own business.

If you’re interested in learning about the foundations of business management and how you can bring success to an existing business, an online MBA might be the answer for you. Every organization, big or small, needs a strong team of trained professionals who know how to manage people and effectively solve day to day issues involving economics, accounting, finance, and marketing.
