Women and Maternal Substance Use Webinar

This presentation will explore a gender-specific family-centered treatment approach to addiction for women and their families. Emphasis will be given to importance of family relationships and the various systems that must be considered during treatment.

Presenter:
Jessica Chou, PhD, LPC
Assistant Professor

Jessica Chou, PhD focuses on community-based research within marginalized populations. Her focus on family-centered substance abuse treatment stems from her time spent working in a gender-specific community organization conducting research and program development. Specifically, she is interested in understanding how to best meet the needs of women, children and families impacted by substance use disorders. Her research efforts explore community-based programming for women and mothers in recovery and their families, prevention mechanisms for the transmission of intergenerational substance use and specialized programming for women and mothers with substance use disorders who have been incarcerated. Additionally, Dr. Chou is interested in clinical and research work with refugee families.
