Drexel Online Announces New Online Graduate Certificate in Social, Emotional and Behavioral Wellness
Drexel University will now offer an online Graduate Certificate in Social, Emotional and Behavioral Wellness through its School of Education. The new online program will begin admitting students in Fall 2019.
The online Graduate Certificate in Social, Emotional and Behavioral Wellness is designed to help educators learn proactive intervention strategies to promote social emotional wellness in today’s students. Once students complete the program and obtain an Instructional I or II Certification in Pennsylvania, they will be eligible for the Pennsylvania Department of Education Social, Emotional and Behavioral Wellness Endorsement. Drexel is the first school to offer this endorsement from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
“Drexel is fully committed to preparing teachers to educate students with a wide range of non-academic barriers to learning,” said Penny Hammrich, PhD, Interim Dean for Drexel University’s School of Education. “Research tells us that nearly 60% of children have experienced some type of trauma that could impact their learning. We need teachers and leaders who are equipped to support and teach these students. Our program teaches evidence-based, age appropriate strategies to foster social, emotional and behavioral wellness in the classroom.”
The online Graduate Certificate in Social, Emotional and Behavioral Wellness focuses on helping teaching professionals build supportive classrooms and programming for students dealing with trauma or other mental health issues. The program consists of four, three-credit courses and 15 hours of field placement per term.
